Only Half of Women Requesting Postpartum Sterilization Undergo the Procedure

Washington, DC -- Many pregnant women in the US who request postpartum sterilization ultimately do not undergo the procedure (46%). Consequently, health care providers should counsel all women who desire postpartum sterilization about a wide array of contraceptive methods, according to a report in the April issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Pregnancy Possible After UAE

Washington, DC -- A study published in the January issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology indicates that pregnancy is possible for women who undergo uterine artery embolization (UAE) treatment for problem fibroids. Due to abnormal placental development in a few of the pregnancies, however, researchers suggest that post-UAE pregnancies be managed conservatively and that the condition of the placenta be closely monitored during pregnancy.
